After growing up in Rochester Minnesota, I moved to Scottsdale Arizona in 1993 and obtained both my bachelors and master’s degree in Social Work and then obtained my clinical license. I offer an eclectic approach in therapy utilizing a number of theories and therapy approaches to maximize my client’s success in goal attainment, reduction in distress, and developing additional coping tools helping my clients to move forward. My services are available to adults and couples.
I provide counseling, psychotherapy and psychoeducation groups addressing stress management, coping with anxiety, fear, depression, and adjustment to chronic illness through these therapeutic methods.
Therapy is a commitment to make difficult adjustments in thinking patterns and behavior. Effective counseling is a two way street. It takes a time, energy and commitment from the client to make changes in behavior or thought patterns and then learn new ways of coping with thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It is difficult at times, however, after time it becomes easier.
Therapy can help a person work on areas that need improvement in their life to bring about a much happier life. Therapy helps people improve their relationships; enhance a person’s self-esteem, and overall outlook on life. It can also help a person identify talents and strengths and encourage them to try new and different ways of approaching life and handling life’s daily tribulations.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Is designed to maximize your potential for a rich, full and meaningful life.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) works to solve current problems and change unhelpful thinking and behavior.
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) is designed to aid in preventing the relapse of depression.
I offer presentations for group settings on a number of topics including managing anxiety, depression, caregiver needs, etc.
I worked with Suzanne for two years following serious health complications and medical trauma. Her background in chronic and terminal illness means she brings tremendous insight to the unique challenges of medical trauma and recovery: Her specialization and depth of experience were absolutely key to my healing and simply can’t be substituted by a typical CBT skillset. She has offered me invaluable guidance, support, and compassion during significant life transitions, and has helped me to integrate strategies that I still use today to manage depression, anxiety, grief, and PTSD. Her style is individualized and eclectic, warm but direct. I always looked forward to our sessions because I knew I would leave feeling better than I started.
I was initially drawn to Suzanne by her expertise in care giving and grief issues. It was so refreshing to talk with someone who "got it" when it came to the issues I faced in the all consuming support of my special needs son.
I also really appreciated Suzanne's approach. She is not only very knowledgeable and insightful, but employed a very direct, pragmatic approach for addressing my issues. Suzanne didn't just listen but she actively participated in our sessions and brought in her own thoughts, insights and personal experience to them. From the first session felt that we were getting to work, making progress toward health and finding solutions. Suzanne is also very professional, dependable, and on time which I appreciated in my busy life. Lastly I also felt very comfortable and connected to Suzanne.
